With summer right around the corner, a lot of us are going to be spending a lot more time traveling. When traveling it can be really challenging to make healthy summer travel choices when you are not in a familiar environment.

Even if your nutrition and exercise will change when you’re out of town, you can still make mindful choices that allow you to remain aligned with your healthy summer travel goals.

Whether you are traveling by car or plane there are plenty of healthy snack choices that you can bring with you or find on the go. If you plan to be in the car, consider packing a large cooler! Fill it with some of your favorite healthy snacks to minimize the need to stop at a gas station or go through the drive through.

Remember to pack enough snacks to have throughout the trip – you don’t want to get stuck without something to snack on! And if you run out or are taking the plane route a lot of these options are easily available at most convenience stores.

Our Favorite Healthy Travel Snack Ideas

  • Fruit
  • Hummus and Veggies
  • Cheese sticks
  • Trail mix
  • Greek yogurt
  • Granola bars or Protein Bars
  • Homemade power balls
  • Veggie-Packed Sandwiches

If you aren’t interested in packing your own snacks there are still plenty of ways to maintain healthy choices at rest stops or at the airport terminal. Looking at your terminal map and finding the healthiest choices is a great way to think ahead and minimize last minute stressful choices. Consider places that may have salads, sandwiches, bowls, or wrap. Even the majority of fast food chains have salads, grilled options, vegetarian friendly choices, and much more.

If you are on the road and are not familiar with the area, consider downloading these apps to help eliminate last minute scrolling. Apps such as Food Tripping, Happy Cow, and Vegan Finder are great tools to lead you in the right direction.

Making mindful food choices while on vacation is a great starting point, but there are so many other things you can also implement while on vacation. Staying hydrated, getting adequate sleep, daily movement, and relaxing are other incredible ways to stay happy and healthy while on vacation.

Our final tip for success is to get back into a sense of routine as soon as you get back from vacation. It can be so easy to continue in a vacation mode when you return, but that can make it even more challenging to get back to where you started.

As soon as you get back, review your goals, hit the grocery store, schedule your workout, and reflect on your time away to continue moving forward.
