A gut healthy drink for fall? Sign me up before cold and flu season, please! When I gave up alcohol, one of the first things I noticed was an improvement in my gut health. My immune system seemed to perk up, and I experienced less digestive related issues. It’s well-evidenced that alcohol disrupts the delicate balance of the gut microbiome. In turn, this leads to increased gut inflammation and a decrease in beneficial bacteria. While the occasional drink isn’t a big deal, if one regularly drinks or has even a one night binge, gut integrity is for sure compromised. After “big” weekends, I can remember how easily it was for me to catch whatever virus came my way, and I also remember how terrible my stomach would feel as it dealt with trying to recover in my hungover status.

Fall, Football & Festivities

Watching the University of Tennessee play football is one of my favorite times of the year with my family. I love demonstrating the ability to watch sports without having to have a drink in my hand. At the same time, it’s fun to feel festive with special with watch party snacks and beverages, so I was inspired to make this Apple Cider Ginger Mocktail that everyone in our family can enjoy, no matter the age. In contrast to *not being detrimental to gut health, it’s actually a gut supportive drink.

Gut Health Benefits of Vinegar and Kombucha

Apple Cider Vinegar: Known for its numerous health benefits, apple cider vinegar can improve digestion by increasing stomach acid production, which aids in the breakdown of food. Additionally, its antimicrobial properties can help maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria.

Ginger Kombucha: Kombucha is a fermented tea rich in probiotics, which are beneficial bacteria that support a healthy gut microbiome. The ginger in the kombucha also adds anti-inflammatory properties, aiding in digestive health and soothing the stomach.

By combining these gut healthy ingredients, my Apple Cider & Ginger Fizz not only offers you the flavors of fall, but it also supports your gut health, making it a perfect addition to your fall drink menu. So, next time you’re looking for a festive and healthy beverage, give this recipe a try and toast to a happy, healthy gut!
